March favourite things

The Easter long weekend has been a great chance to switch off from work, head to the beach, and catch up on the long list of podcasts, movies and recipes I’ve been meaning to try.

Read on to find out what a few of my March favourites were.

I’m always excited to discover a new podcast series and this month’s discovery was Second Life by MyDomaine. Hosted by WhoWhatWear and MyDomaine founder Hilary Kerr, each episode sees Kerr interview a successful entrepreneurial woman about her journey to success. Standout episodes include celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin, Sprinkles cupcake founder Candace Nelson and Allure editor in chief Michelle Lee.

For a few of my other podcast favourites, check out this recent article here.

If you’re a Kmart fan, then you’ll know how a trip to Kmart for a few things can turn into a major shopping haul were you leave with an ottoman, yoga mat, wine glasses and pot plant stands. I picked up this light grey ottoman for our lounge recently and it’s quickly become a favourite – great as a foot rest or extra seating for guests. Plus, the neutral colour works well with our navy sofa and wooden coffee table.

These banana oat pancakes have been on regular rotation this month. They only take a few minutes to prep and are a nice change from my usual porridge. Serve hot with maple syrup, bananas and blueberries.

Zara online shopping finally arrived in New Zealand this month! My first order was a mix of hits and misses – hit: the black 100% silk blouse and miss: the gold sequinned tweed jacket that looked amazing on the model but fit terribly. Despite this, I highly recommend checking out the online store if you’re a busy mum, prefer to shop from the comfort of your couch, or don’t live near one of New Zealand’s Zara stores.

Towards the end of summer I found that my usual gym classes weren’t inspiring or motivating me any more, in fact I was kind of dreading going to the gym. During the last few weeks I’ve swapped classes for my own programme thanks to the FitNation app. One of the things I love about this app is that it creates a personalised programme for you to follow, includes a list of the exercises to do each day and even has video examples so you know how to do each exercise – great if like me you’re not overly familiar with the different weight machines at the gym. This simple switch in routine has got me reinspired and I’m feeling stronger thanks to the new exercises.

Cooler weather always has me reaching for a statement lipstick and this month’s favourite was MAC Red. It’s a gorgeous luxurious red with a satin finish and build-able coverage.

Another favourite has been Mecca Max Desert Nights Eyeshadow. I’ve been wearing the orange terracotta duo (which includes powder and cream shadows) as a wash of colour on the eyes, keeping the rest of my make-up minimal (who has time in the morning to do a full face anyway?!).

My final beauty favourite, Mecca Cosmetica Lip De-Luscious lip tint provides a subtle pink tint, but I’ve been wearing it as a blush or glossy highlight when I’m doing my make-up on the run or after the gym. Got to love a multi purpose beauty product.
